The most Indian nation in South America, is also the continent's most mountainous and isolated. Your Earthbound Adventure includes exploring the ruins of ancient civilizations at Tiahunaco, sailing across the legendary Lake Titicaca, and following the footsteps of ancient pre-Inca peoples. We will browse the street markets of La Paz, and trek the Inca trail following rivers and mountain slopes through
dense vegetation to the subtropical town of Coroico in the Yungas. Bolivia is an enticing destination for the adventure traveler.

Bolivian Amazon Exploration

This one-of-a-kind exploration is an Earthbound Adventures exclusive and found nowhere else. This trip will take us to two different parts of the Amazon Basin. In the Western Bolivian Amazon we will explore, for seven days, this magnificent jungle, trekking, fishing, and canoeing on the Beni and Tuichi rivers with opportunities for wildlife viewing. In the second part of the expedition, we will explore the remote and virtually pristine Noel Kempff Mercado National Park, one of South America's most spectacular parks. The park has five distinct ecosystem elements, evergreen forest, dry forest, inundated forest, inundated savanna and dry savanna. With 14 mammal species, 600 species of birds, more than all of North America, 75 reptiles, 260 species of fish and estimated 4000 plant species. This park is spectacularly scenic and ecologically diverse. Noel Kampff National Park is one of the world's most biologically richest parks .


Trip Itinerary

Day 1: LA PAZ. A relaxing morning while acclimatizing to the high altitude. An afternoon tour of the city, welcome dinner and orientation.

Day 2-8: GUANAY. Ten-hour overland trip from La Paz to small gold mining town where we will start our expedition with a motorized canoe on the Mapiri and Kaka rivers. We'll camp along the riverbank and continue our expedition down the Tuichi and Beni rivers and take night excursions to spot alligators. We'll end the trip in Rurrenabaque, a little frontier settlement on the Rio Beni surrounded by rain forest. Return to La Paz the following day.

Day 9: LA PAZ.
Transfer to airport and fly to Santa Cruz.

Day 10: SANTA CRUZ.
City tour and free afternoon.

Days 11-14: NOEL KAMPFF MERCADO NATIONAL PARK.
For the next four days we will explore part of this remote park that was created in 1979 to protect Serrania de Caparuch and her wildlife. This plateau, with the largest tract of virgin Cerrado is a sparsely forested scrub savanna found only in Brazil and Bolivia. This vegetation supports endangered species restricted to the Cerrado such as the Maned Wolf, Giant Anteater, Giant Armadillo and over 500 species of birds. We will visit the amazing 150-meter Catarata Huanchaca waterfall. We'll explore the tablelands have canoe trips, swim the lagoons of the park, and be on the lookout for wildlife.

Day 15: SANTA CRUZ.
We'll fly back to the city and have free time for browsing and souvenir shopping.

Day 16: LA PAZ.
A farewell dinner and folk show will conclude this trip.

Lake Titicaca And The Yungas

We developed this program for people who have an interest in culture and history. We will visit the Inca and Tiahunaco cultures and the religious ceremonial sites in Copacabana.
Trek along ancient Inca trails and Cross Lake Titicaca to visit the Sun and Moon Islands. Overland to the Yungas, a region of deep valleys, rivers, and waterfalls. We'll trek on a high glacier and descend to a well-preserved paved Inca trail, to the town of Coroico.


Trip Itinerary


Days 1-3: LA PAZ. We'll have a relaxing morning while acclimatizing to the high altitude. An afternoon tour of the city and a welcome dinner will conclude the first day. After breakfast, we'll embark on a full-day Jeep trip of surrounding La Paz. We'll visit Valle De Las Aminas with its curious rock formation carved by water erosion. We'll have excellent views of Mt. Illimani and Palca Canyon. After lunch a visit to the Moon Valley and return to La Paz.

Days 4-7: LAKE TITICACA. Overland to Copacabana, and visit en route the ruins of the ancient civilization of Tiahunaco. For the next four days we'll trek and sail this legendary lake the world's highest navigable lake. We'll start the trek from the historic pilgrimage town of Copacabana, following an ancient pre-Inca trail to Yampopata and we'll cross the lake to the Sun Island. We'll camp near Pilkokaina ruins. The following day we'll trek to the Inca Gardens and Chinking, an ancient symmetrical construction used in Inca time as a lodge for visitors. We'll sail to Moon Island, visit the Temple of the Moon Goddess Maids and visit the Urea Indians on their floating island.

Day 8: LA PAZ. Free day for shopping and sightseeing.

Days 9-14: CHACALTAYA TO COROICO INCA TRIAL. This interesting trek starts at Mt. Chacaltaya. At 5,300m., it's the highest ski resort in the world. We'll have a magnificent panoramic view of the Royal Andean Range, Titicaca Lake, and La Paz. For the next five days we'll trek a beautiful ancient trail following rivers and mountain slopes through dense vegetation. This environment brings alive an ancient history of human settlements dating back to the times of the Tiahunaco and the Inca civilizations. We will end this trek at Coroico, a picturesque town at the Yungas known for its subtropical climate. We'll swim, relax, and walk in surrounding hills and return to La Paz the following day.

Day 15: LA PAZ. Free time, farewell dinner, and folk show will conclude this trip.
