fjords and glaciers of Pategonia in the south. Chile is a fascinating country for travelers. In this trip we will experience the breathtaking beauty of Chile. From the magnificent Lauca Park and the Atacama Desert in the north, to the endless chain of lakes, snow-capped volcanoes, and fast flowing rivers of the Lake District. Join us on an adventure you will never forget. Trip Itinerary Day 1: SANTIAGO. Transfer for flight to Arica, free afternoon, and Welcome dinner and orientation. Days 2-5: LAUCA NATIONAL PARK. We begin in Putre, a charming Aymara village at 3500m. Spend a relaxed day acclimating to the altitude. A short ride to Lauca N.P., a world Biosphere Reserve, home for herds of Llamas, Alpaca, Vicuna, Condor, and more than 150 species of birds. We will explore this magnificent park, hike to the spectacular Lake Chungara, one of the highest lakes in the world, we will visit local Aymara villages, hike at Las Vicunas National Reserve and Salar de Surire National Monument with its beautiful flamingoes. Day 6: ARICA. City Tour and free Afternoon to browse this lovely coastal city. Days 7-9: SUN PEDRO DE ATACAMA. The most "perfect" of deserts, Atacama Desert is among the dryest places on earth. We will visit the fascinating Tatio Geysers, Chuquicamata the largest open copper mine in the world, which will spark a discussion on the environmental challenge it poses. From here we will visit San Pedro De Atacama a Spanish-American town situated on a beautiful oasis, return via Valley of the Moon with its captivating geologic formations. We will conclude the tour at Antofagasta, free day to enjoy the historical quarter and its lovely beaches. Day 10: SANTIAGO. City tour and free afternoon overnight train with a private sleeper cabin or a morning flight to Puerto Montt. Days 11-15: PUERTO MONTT. City tour and a free afternoon. The next 3 days will be spent boating across the Spectacular Lake Todos Los Santos, viewing the volcano of Mt. Osorno, whitewater rafting on Petrohue River with its class 2-3 rapids, horseback riding through the Cochamo Valley. Farewell dinner and folkshow will conclude this trip. Overnight train to Santiago, depart for the U.S. |
