Day 1: Lima, Peru- Arrive at Lima, transfer to hotel

Day 2: Lima - Cusco

Fly to Cusco and transfer to your hotel. Free morning. Afternoon tour explores the deep spirituality of this ancient Incan capital. Visit the Temple of the Sun, a revered religious center during the Inca Empire, and Sacsayhuaman, believed to have been an astronomical observatory. End your day with an ancient ceremony at the Temple of the Moon. (B)

Day 3: Sacred Valley

Drive into the beautiful Sacred Valley and settle into your hotel, set on the grounds of a Spanish colonial monastery. Tour to Moray: Explore these ancient Incan agricultural terraces; The Salt Pools of Maras: Learn about centuries-old salt extraction as you hike along the salt pools; Agricultural Terraces of the Incas: A walking tour through ancient Incan agricultural terraces. Day 4: Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu

Journey on the Vistadome train through panoramas of Indian villages, terraced fields and snow-capped Andean peaks. At Machu Picchu, our insightful guide will bring the citadel ruins to life with illuminating details of history and culture. An Andean ceremony provides insight into this rich culture. Day 6: Posada/Posada Amazonas

Fly to Puerto Maldonado for a 2-hour journey up the Tambopata River to Posada Amazonas, a 24-room, world-renowned eco-lodge co-owned by the indigenous Ese’eja community. An ethno-botanical tour with your Ese’eja guide along the forest trails illuminates the everyday use of these plants for medicine, construction, food and fiber. (B, L, D)

Day 7: Posada Amazonas

A full and exciting day reveals the diverse eco-systems of the jungle. Visit a clay lick to see flocks of brilliantly colored macaws, and hike to Tres Chimbadas Lake for a canoe trip in search of giant river otters, turtles and wading birds. You’re invited to a pre-lunch meditation to strengthen mental, spiritual and physical harmony. Then join your guide to find the giant Ceiba tree, endowed with mythical status by many cultures. The imposing presence of this tree in the remote silence of the forest is indeed a powerful experience for many. (B, L, D)

Day 9: Posada Amazonas/Lima

Return downriver; fly to Lima and transfer to your first class hotel. This afternoon, visit the Plaza Mayor and the Gold Museum. (B)
